Community Kicks: walking football for all*
At Luton Town WFC Ladies, we believe walking football should be for everyone* regardless of age, income, or ability. That’s why we’re excited to launch Community Kicks, a new walking football initiative designed to help more women get involved in the game.
Walking football is a non to limited contact version of the sport that’s perfect for improving fitness, boosting mobility, supporting overall health and for making new friends. It’s a fantastic way to stay active and ideal for all fitness levels. But, it’s not just about the physical benefits. Walking football brings people together, helping you make new friends, share laughs, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from being part of a team.
Through Community Kicks, we’ll be supplying footwear as we know not everyone can afford new boots – and potentially training gear, depending on our grant and funding resources, to women on a low income or income support. We want to remove barriers, so that everyone has the chance to play, enjoy the game, and feel the positive impact of walking football can have in their lives.
Lace up, join in, and be part of our walking football community.
WALKING FOOTBALL FOR ALL*
Walking football was created for older adults and those with mobility issues. Our 40 years of age caveat relates to to tournament and league football, however all female adults over 18 are welcome to our standard training and play sessions.
BEGINNERS OR ADVANCED
Walking football is a great leveler, because you're not running means those less skillful players are able to join in at a level that suits them. Although some players can move at speed within the confines of the rules it's much easier for a novice player to be involved and enjoy the game.
INACTIVITY
Physical inactivity is associated with 1 in 6 deaths in the UK and is estimated to cost the UK £7.4 billion annually (including £0.9 billion to the NHS alone). 33% of women aged 41 to 60 are not getting the recommended amount of exercise.
YOUR PRIORITIES
Some studies suggest that women prioritise family and mental health over exercise, with only a small percentage listing exercise as one of their top three goals. 30% of women have been found to be less active since startng menopause.
