Walking Football for Women Over 40
Walking football is becoming increasingly popular with women over 40 looking for a fun, social and supportive way to stay active. At Luton Town WFC Ladies, we provide welcoming walking football sessions, designed for women of all fitness levels and experience and abilities. Whether you are completely new to football or returning after many years, our club offers a safe and enjoyable environment where everyone can participate.
What If I'm Under 40?
Well, provided you are an adult female, then you are welcome to our women's walking football training and play sessions. The only stipulation is that because the game was created for older adults, many with mobility or medical issues, we have a 'duty of care' to ensure that younger, stronger, fitter players are not putting these older members at risk. So you are more than welcome - but honestly, if you can still run, jump, tackle and shoot, you'll be better off sticking to standard football while you can.
Fitness Benefits of Walking Football
Walking football is a fantastic way for women over 40 to improve overall health and wellbeing. It provides an exciting alternative to solo gym sessions and exercise classes. This slower, no-contact version of the game is ideal for those returning to team sport and those who were never considered good enough or lacked the confidence.
Just a Few of The Benefits:
- Improved cardiovascular fitness
- Better mobility
- Improved balance
- Weight management supporting a calorie controlled diet
- Impact of steps help promote good bone strength
- Aid to good mental health
Because running is not allowed, walking football is easier on the joints while still providing an excellent, fun and rewarding workout.
The Social Side of Walking Football
One of the biggest benefits of women’s walking football (and to be honest most team sports) is the sense of community. Interaction with others helps improve social isolation while on the field decision making during play provides cognitive stimulation, an important facet in preventing dementia. At Luton Town Walking Football Club Ladies, we also offer 'off the field' activities to maintain this community and social engagement.
Many women join looking for:
- Friendship
- Social connections
- Confidence
- New experience
- Group activities
- Improved health
Beginner Friendly Sessions
You do not need to be a footballer to join. The range of footballing experience and abilities at Luton Town WFC Ladies is varied, from retired competitive players returning, because the slower nature of walking football provides an extended playing opportunity, to those that played casually and others that have never played any form of football before.
Our walking football club welcomes:
- Complete beginners
